Gundam 30th Anniversary Unveiling

Last night saw the unveiling of the 30th anniversary Gundam 1:1 RX-78-2 monument in Odaiba Tokyo. It will stand on this site until the last of august when it apparently will be dismantled. Seriously, who wants to dismantle such a grand piece of engineering?
The 18 meter larger-than-life statue has been drawing crowds to the site weeks ahead of its official unveiling that took place. The ceremony featured amazing show of laser beams as you can see from the photos shown here below. There were also speeches from Yoshiyuki Tomino and Toru Furuya, the seiyuu for Amuro Ray, pilot of Gundam RX-78-2. The ceremony also featured guest appearance of GACKT, and he performed right beneath the statue.
On a related note, a new book is coming, specially published to commemorate the completion of the statue, called "Real-G 1/1scale Gundam Photographs". Below here is a video from the show, please enjoy.
